Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if an advert is a valid job opportunity?
ER24 urges the public to be aware of fake employment and learnership advertisements on social media seeking payment in advance as part of the hiring process. ER24 would not request payment for any job application or registration.
The modus operandi of such scams often requests money to be sent through informal channels such as money market counters or a cellular number as part of the application or training process. Fake positions usually advertised may include emergency care technicians, nurses, security, porters and other administration opportunities.
Common points that may indicate the advertised post may be a scam:
- Request for upfront payment or banking details as part of application
- Contact numbers are cellular numbers as landlines are ‘out of order’
- Legitimate-sounding names that resemble the company name (e.g. ER 24 or Medi-clinic)
Individuals interested in seeking employment within ER24 can visit https://careers.er24.co.za/ for all valid employment opportunities.
If an applicant is unsure of the validity of an advertised position, they are urged to contact the Mediclinic Careers Centre on 0800 027 547 or email AskHR@Mediclinic.co.za.
How do I obtain a quote for an ambulance transfer?
In some circumstances, a patient may request a transfer from one care facility to another (or to a residence). A patient or a family member may request a private quote from ER24's Inter-facility Transfer Desk.
To provide you with an accurate quote, you can send a detailed request to ifttransfer@er24.co.za. You can also contact ER24's Emergency Contact Centre on 084 124 for assistance in this regard.
How do I become a paramedic?
ER24's training academy does not offer entry level paramedic courses. It is advisable to visit the Health Professions Council of South Africa's website to find our more about university enrolment of these courses.
ER24 and Mediclinic only offer a Diploma in Emergency Care at the Mediclinic Learning Centre in Bellville. To find out more about this self-funding course, please contact 021 943 6000.
Can I ride along, volunteer or job shadow a paramedic?
Unfortunately, ER24 is not able to offer job shadowing or ride along opportunities with our emergency personnel. There are strict requirements of persons permitted to be present on an emergency vehicle. Medical and international paramedic students may be accommodated through an official application. We are also not able to accommodate volunteers. Should you wish to volunteer, we advise contacting your local fire station.
Can I apply for a learnership through ER24?
ER24 does not offer learnerships or study assistance at this stage. Should you come across a post encouraging you to register or apply for a learnership or study assistance at ER24, please treat it as a scam and do not pay any monies for an interview or examination. Should a learnership or study assistance opportunity ever become available, ER24 and Mediclinic will only post these opportunities on its official websites and not on third party career pages.
Does ER24 provide first aid courses?
ER24 no longer offer commercial first aid training to individuals or corporate institutions. The ER24 Training Academy focuses on internal staff skills development and professional education within the business.
Promoted first aid courses on ER24's social media channels are made possible through third-party suppliers and not directly through the ER24 Training Academy.
Will ER24 be able to provide me with direct medical advice over social media?
In the interest of your health and safety, it is not possible for us to provide you with a diagnosis or provide you with direct medical advice via social media. Does ER24 provide medical aid and insurance?
No. ER24 is not a medical aid or insurance company. Should you be interested in finding out more about individual products, please email corporate.sales@er24.co.za. Will ER24 treat me if I do not have a medical aid?

Should you require a government ambulance, the operator will be able to assist you. A patient will never be refused emergency medical transport; however, we have to make you aware that there will be a fee for service.
