Awareness

Take the first step towards a safer, more secure work environment with ER24’s corporate services.

When a customer at a national DIY retail store recently had a seizure, the floor manager knew exactly who to contact. The woman injured herself by falling into shop shelving, but since the store was an ER24 corporate services client, there was a clear medical emergency plan in place.

“Workplace accidents are unplanned events that result in injury, damage, or loss,” says Alison Hamaty, a corporate consultant at ER24. “They can be caused by different factors, including human error, hazards, and unsafe equipment.”

If you own a business, one of your main worries is an employee being injured at work or a client getting hurt while on your premises.

Tailormade solutions

To tackle the issue of safety in the workplace, ER24 can assist. “ER24’s corporate emergency services include a variety of products designed for your specific needs,” Hamaty says. “Our goal is to ensure businesses are adequately prepared and supported to deal with everyday things that can go wrong.” Whether you're running a large manufacturing plant, a school, a shopping centre, a university campus, or a small shop, ER24’s corporate services are designed to give you peace of mind.

Safety compliance

“As you focus on expanding your business, ER24 wants to make things easier for you,” says Hamaty. “We can help you meet National Health and Safety Regulations and make sure our customised contact centre (call 084 124) is part of your emergency procedures.”

She adds that during a medical emergency, it’s important to have everything ready so you can follow your plan. If you’re not sure what to do, it’s easy to panic and lose valuable time. For example, giving the right address to ER24 Emergency Resource Officers over the phone can be difficult when you’re in a crisis. “Having your business details integrated with ER24’s advanced CAD system means your site is logged on the system, along with locations of the closest hospitals, for easy access,” says Hamaty.

Creating a plan

“In the initial exploration stage, we visit the site, look at the size of the business, total employees, and other key details,” Hamaty says. “This includes things like how many first aiders you have, their qualifications, your first aid equipment, and whether you have an automated external defibrillator (AED).”

ER24’s corporate services team will also assess whether there are ER24 branches close to each of your business sites. If your business is in a remote or hard-to-reach area, the team will make sure you have backup plans ready.

“We then work with an experienced team, including two medical doctors, to determine the different emergency scenarios your business needs to prepare for,” Hamaty explains. These can range from tripping on stairs to chemical burns, fires, and structural failures.”

Mandatory practice drills are included in the package, and during an emergency, ER24 is available to provide medical advice while you wait for the crews to arrive. “We also provide trauma debriefing and counselling, when necessary,” says Hamaty.
